View Full Version : Lesson Learned the Hard Way

 Got the smoker out today to do some ribs. Thought I would wipe down the outside of the smoker before I started. Sprayed it down with a little Windex. Wrong thing to use. It took all the lettering off the decal that is around the temperature control knob. Guess I'll be using warm water on a rag from now on to wipe it down. I'll be calling ST tomorrow to order a replacement decal.

I have used Simply Green on mine with not problems...that's a bummer!!!!

I usually use Simple Green also. Just picked up the wrong bottle yesterday. Just got off the phone with Robin at ST. New label is on its way.

Great customer service. Ordered the replacement label on Monday, received it on Thursday. I'm back in business. Thanks ST.

I've had mine since '02. It's stays covered up & outside all the time. The only thing I've ever used to clean the outside is a damp rag & a little extra elbow grease around the top vent.

Yea, stay away from 2+2 Gumcutter also...

Yep. That's happened to me also. Windex was the culpret as well.

Chalk up one more learner re: further non-use of Windex. New label coming here as well.

Hopefully one lesson is enough, but gotta wonder, since I can't apparently learn from the mistakes of others.....

Yeah. I have some of my lettering gone, too on my 1400. Didn't know there was anything we could do to fix it.

this thread is making me feel guilty....but not because of my 1400.
Rather my Lynx Gas grill is WAY past time for a cleaning.:(

How much does a new decal cost? The lettering on mine has faded out and lower edge is gone from cleaning. I used a stainless polish and a power buffer to bring out a good shine.

Not to put ST on the spot here, but they were kind enough to send one for free when I inquired re: replacement. I'd give them a call.

I have since started using Stainless Steel Cleaner that is available at Sam's Club in the Restaurant Supply Section. It seems to give me a nice clean shine without removing lettering. BTW, do not use it inside the smoker as I believe it is made of silicone... Would not taste good.
